How I Recognise Nervous System Patterns During a Consultation in North Devon
When someone comes to see me in my treatment room in Northam, Bideford, I am not simply offering reflexology or Reiki as standalone treatments. My work begins with observation, listening and careful assessment of patterns that have often been building quietly in the body for years.
As a reflexologist and Reiki practitioner in North Devon, I have learned that stress rarely presents as a single symptom. It leaves physical and energetic clues long before someone can fully put words to what they are experiencing.
Within the first few minutes of a consultation, your body is already communicating.
I notice the way you breathe and whether the diaphragm moves freely or feels restricted. I pay attention to where the body feels braced or guarded, and I observe temperature and texture in the feet. Through reflexology, the feet provide a detailed map of the body, reflecting how stress, pressure and long-term patterns are being held physically.
At the same time, I am working energetically. Reiki and energy healing support regulation by interacting with the subtle energetic patterns that sit beneath physical symptoms. As I work, I am aware of shifts in tone, tension and responsiveness. I am listening not only to your words, but to how your energy presents.
The physical signs are often consistent.
Cold extremities can indicate long-term survival activation. Thickened or hardened skin may reflect protection and over-functioning. Restriction through the diaphragm frequently links to anxiety, over-responsibility and difficulty fully switching off. Tension in the jaw, shoulders or lower back can suggest that someone has been carrying pressure for a prolonged period of time.
These are patterns I commonly see in my reflexology and Reiki clinic in North Devon.
Alongside the physical signs, there are often emotional themes that run quietly underneath. Difficulty resting. Feeling responsible for everyone. Anxiety that never fully settles. Fatigue that does not improve with sleep. A sense of always being “on.”
These are not personal failings. They are patterns within the nervous system that have developed for understandable reasons.
This is why I work in a structured way. While a single session can bring relief, lasting change happens when the underlying pattern is recognised and worked with consistently. My role is to assess first, identify what is actually being held, and then work both physically and energetically so that the body can begin to learn safety rather than simply experience temporary relaxation.
If you are experiencing ongoing tension, fatigue or anxiety that does not fully settle, the first step is a structured consultation. From there, we work with clarity and care.
